The Harmful effects of the EU?

We are pleased to include the following article from John Gouriet, chairman of Defenders of The Realm. This organisation is campaigning to test the limits of the UK government's power in the courts in order to restore lawful governance to the country. Defenders of The Realm believe that successive governments have unlawfully transferred our cherished sovereignty to the EU and have exceeded their authority in many areas, not least in their acceptance of literally thousands of inhibiting directives. John Gouriet believes this is having a detrimental effect on our citizenry, in body, mind and spirit….

PEACE OF MIND

by

JOHN GOURIET

Chairman of Defenders of the Realm and Editor of London Miscellany

Health begins in the head. A positive attitude to life whatever its vicissitudes, is more than half-way to a healthy body. It is easy to become dispirited, to be knocked down by physical disability, failure and mental pressure. Stress is one of the most lethal, silent killers known to man. Worry and anxiety lead to stress and abnormal stress levels attack the heart, the brain and the blood as well as the spirit. Undue stress destroys peace of mind.

The pace of modern living, not just 'burning the candle at both ends', but unhealthy and irregular eating habits, over-indulgence in alcohol, drugs and other transitory comforts, pressure of work and travel, all lead to stress. Of course a reasonable measure of stress is essential to creativity, productivity and general competitiveness. It is excessive and constant high-level stress that is the danger to health and harmony in home and work place alike. Indiscipline, moral decline, marital breakdown, crime, drug and alcohol abuse are all symptoms of stress-related pressurisation and they are all increasing relentlessly. They appear to be indicative of the price that has to be paid for greater financial freedom and benefit, higher standards of living and far more varied life-styles than any previous generation.

Yet there are also pockets of poor that no state safety net has managed to catch. They should cast a shadow on the collective conscience of the affluent and our administrators. So too should the hospital waiting lists, the trolley queues in draughty corridors waiting for beds, the millions who cannot seek a legal remedy because they neither qualify for legal aid nor can afford to finance their own proceedings. Who can ignore an education system that massages results downwards to deprive students of their hard-earned place at university and imperil their whole career? What about farmers forced to witness the slaughter of more than twelve million cattle, sheep and pigs, including irreplaceable herds and flocks during the 'epidemic' of 'foot and mouth' last year, knowing that 98% of their animals were never infected? The suicide rate amongst farmers soared in 2001.

Small business are throttled by regulations, we are all subjected to growing stealth taxes, pension plundering and hounded by restrictions as well as electronic and data-base surveillance by the authorities. Animal Farm and 1984 may be eighteen years late, but George Orwell's predictions are proving uncannily accurate. In the pipe-line are such horrors as the replacement of 'presumption of innocence', trial by jury and habeas corpus by the Napoleonic Code of 'guilty unless innocence can be proved'. The European arrest warrant will allow extradition and imprisonment for unspecified periods without trial for any allegation however flimsy or malevolent. Armed Euro-police will patrol our streets. The United Kingdom is being broken up into twelve regions of the Euro-Union.

The fact is that we have been systematically betrayed by our politicians of all parties over many years. They have ignored the Constitution, broken their sworn oaths of allegiance and placed the sovereign in breach of her sacred coronation oath. They have no authority to rule us. They are our representatives and servants responsible for legislation and administration. Sovereignty resides with the people and it cannot be lawfully transferred. This constant erosion of our inalienable rights and liberties is now being felt the length and breadth of the country.

People are increasingly frustrated by red-tape and fearful of what lies ahead under the yoke of a new 'Soviet Union of Europe'. This is the very real threat we face, but the cause resides in Westminster. Therefore it is our government that Defenders of the Realm are now challenging in the courts to test the limits of their power and restore honest government under the Constitution and the Rule of Law. Our solicitors have fired the first shot. We need the support of all who desire the continued independence of our nation. So please read and fill in the insert 'Constitutional Challenge', send a contribution and become a Defender of the Realm with the Duke of Wellington and colleagues. With your help we can save our country, our countryside and once again achieve peace of mind!
