Up Close and Personal
An interview with CTM founder, Phillip Day
14th January 2005

ECLUB: Happy New Year.
PD: Same to you, Brian. I'd also like to welcome our new subscribers from Australia and New Zealand who came aboard during my recent tour of those balmy climes.
ECLUB: How did it all go?
PD: It was great. We have a marvellous team, led by Marlene Stopp of Credence Events Management, so things were supremely well put together, and of course, the Aussies and Kiwis are brilliant anyway.
ECLUB: And facing the same challenges we are in the frigid north.
PD: Yup. The infamous Codex. Folks, if there's one war we have to fight to the bitter end, it's for our right to choose our own treatments, supplements, health advice, doctors, etc., without the drug industry and their mastiffs strong-arming the masses, denying us choice, and taking away our vitamins and minerals, and compelling dangerous, even lethal, treatments upon us under force of law, if necessary. Think it can't happen? See what happens if you lose this fight.
ECLUB: How can people get motivated and mobilised?
PD: The resistance is now very well organised. In New Zealand, there is the New Zealand Health Trust. In Australia, there's the Alliance for Health Freedom and Eve Hillary. In Europe, there's the mighty Rath Foundation, which warns: "The Codex Alimentarius Commission (Codex) will come to be seen by future generations as the greatest threat to the basic human right of health the world has ever known. Never before in history has a special interest group, the pharmaceutical industry, so shamelessly tried to compromise the health of billions of people for no other reason than its desire to maintain multi-billion dollar markets for prescription drugs." In the UK, there's the Alliance for Natural Health. In the US, there's the International Advocates for Health Freedom. If anyone knows any other worthy organisations I've missed, please send me their web-sites. Each group has been set up to co-ordinate action in their respective countries, and they require supporters by the thousand to get involved. As you will see from the "Pricey Drug Trials Turn up Few New Blockbusters" article, the drug industry has got serious problems, so we need to hit them where it hurts.
ECLUB: What else do you have for us this time around?
PD: Apparently Michael Moore is considering doing another of his exposés, this time on the pharmaceutical industry.
ECLUB: Are you serious?
PD: Nothing firm yet, but the grapevine is all-agog at the implications. Then, to kick off 2005, we have a fluoride victory, a mental health victory where G W Bush has signed a law prohibiting forced psychiatric drugging of schoolchildren - a tremendous victory for the Citizen's Commission on Human Rights, the global mental health watchdog (www.cchr.org). Also some great news regarding Vitamin A and cancer, something I've been harping on about since the mammoths. In all then, a promising start to the year.
ECLUB: And some changes closer to home?
PD: Yes, EClub will be formatted slightly differently and a shorter version sent out twice a month. The idea is to make the information more rapid to present, so folks with busy schedules can scan down items that interest them while discarding others.
ECLUB: And the new tour?
PD: Commences this coming Monday and will take in the UK and Ireland. For those who have received flyers who don't think I'm coming to your neighbourhood (i.e. Ireland and South-East England), I am, so panic not! A slight hiccup in the scheduling, but we'll send you a flyer with the dates. In fact, I'm doing TWO identical tours of the UK and Ireland this year, two different talks, so each stop will be visited twice. Click here for details of the first tour, but bear in mind, Ireland and SE England dates will soon be added and we'll mail you all the details.
ECLUB: And rumours of an updated version of the AIDS book?
PD: True enough. The new version, entitled The Truth About HIV, covers everything that has transpired since 2000, when the original World Without AIDS came out. The new version, if even possible, is more explosive as the AIDS agenda unfolds. The new book throws the net wider, also taking in the new affliction, Medical Testing Disease.
ECLUB: Can't wait for that one. Thank you, Phillip.

Pricey Drug Trials Turn Up Few New Blockbusters
by Alex Berenson

The worldwide drug industry is ailing. Three major drug companies - Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Eli Lilly - each disclosed serious problems with important medicines yesterday, throwing a spotlight on the fact that the $500 billion drug industry is stumbling badly in its core business of finding new medicines.

The decline in drug research and development has been an open secret among analysts and scientists for years. But drug company executives have insisted that their industry is fundamentally healthy and their expensive research efforts will pay off.

They have tried, meanwhile, to offset their weakness in creating profitable new drugs by pursuing aggressive campaigns to market existing drugs to doctors and patients, impose big price increases and make efforts to extend patents on existing medicines. Those tactics have protected their profits but irritated consumers and governments that pay for drugs, causing a political reaction in the United States and Europe. After yesterday's news, the intensity of that reaction seems likely to increase.

In less than 12 hours, Pfizer said that it had found increased risk of heart problems for people taking Celebrex, a painkiller that is one of the world's best-selling medicines. AstraZeneca reported that a trial of Iressa, a lung cancer drug approved in the United States last year, showed that the drug did not prolong lives. And Eli Lilly warned doctors that Strattera, its drug to treat attention deficit disorder, usually in children, had caused severe liver injury in at least two patients.

Investors punished all three companies, sending Pfizer stock down 11.2 percent, AstraZeneca down 7.7 percent and Eli Lilly down 2.4 percent. Collectively, the declines reduced the market value of the three companies by more than $30 billion, worsening the industry's weak performance this year.

The sequence of events is a sign that the companies must confront their difficulties in finding new drugs, said Richard T. Evans, an analyst at Sanford C. Bernstein, a Wall Street research firm. "Their R.&D. productivity is just terrible," he said.

No major drug company is exempt from the problem. The number of new drugs approved by the Food and Drug Administration has declined sharply since the mid-1990's, falling from 53 in 1996 to 21 in 2003, even as the industry has nearly doubled its annual spending on drug development, to about $33 billion.

Complicating the process, many drugs already on the market do a reasonably good job, so the bar that new therapies must cross is high, especially because most are expensive.

If companies cannot reverse the trend, investors will almost certainly demand that they cut their research spending. Meanwhile, governments, faced with growing drug costs for publicly financed programs like Medicare and Medicaid, may well alter regulations on drug marketing or force the companies to cut prices, Mr. Evans said. A result in the long run may be an industry that is less profitable and less able to produce new drugs for patients.

Still, experts note that progress comes in fits and starts and the flood of newly discovered biomedical information could lead to many new drugs. But traditional drug companies have not yet had much luck with biotechnology, though they have licensed some drugs from biotechnology companies.

While they struggle with new technologies, the companies are facing a steady stream of patent expirations on their most profitable drugs. To combat that, Pfizer and some other companies have used mergers or acquisitions to grow. But those deals do nothing to increase their overall ability to produce new medicines, critics say, and may even hurt the industry as merging companies struggle to integrate their laboratories.

Dr. Jerry Avorn, professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and author of "Powerful Medicines: The Benefits, Risks and Costs of Prescription Drugs" (Knopf, 2004), said the absence of new drugs had caused companies to try to stoke demand for their existing medicines by marketing them directly to consumers.

"If you don't have a lot of breakthrough drugs in your pipeline, and you're a company, you need to market the hell out of the drugs that you do have," Dr. Avorn said. As a result, many people are taking drugs that have only a moderate benefit for them, or no benefit at all, he said.

At the same time, companies are not closely monitoring the side effects of the medicines that they already sell, because they fear that information about side effects will discourage patients from using new medicines, Dr. Avorn said.

On the surface, the industry seems relatively healthy. Sales are rising strongly both in the United States and worldwide, with revenue up about 9 percent in 2003, to more than $490 billion, according to IMS Health, which tracks drug sales.

No Fluoride in Oberon's Water
by Terry Jones

OBERON residents will not be the ones making a decision whether the town has fluoride in its water or not. Oberon Shire Council, for the second time in three months, has voted against fluoridation, by a clear majority 7-2. In October when the question of the introduction of fluoride as a dental health consideration was debated, it was also defeated. However, since then a number of things have occurred, resulting in Oberon general manager, Bruce Fitzpatrick, reporting to the council's final meeting of the year.

President Bush Signs Landmark Legislation Prohibiting Forced Psychiatric Drugging of Schoolchildren

Celebrities, Parents, Legislators and Civil Rights Groups Win Victory for Children's Rights with Passage of the "Prohibition on Mandatory Medication Amendment"

December 3rd, 2004 - Los Angeles-

Celebrities Lisa Marie Presley, Kelly Preston, Kirstie Alley, Jenna Elfman and Juliette Lewis joined the Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR), a mental health watchdog, in applauding Congress for passing precedent-setting legislation that bans school personnel forcing parents to drug their children for classroom or behavioral problems. In order to receive federal funds under the Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act (IDEA), the "Prohibition on Mandatory Medication Amendment," was signed into law by President Bush today and requires schools to implement policies that prohibit schoolchildren being forced onto psychiatric drugs as a requisite for their education.

Hundreds of parents across America have been pressured to put their school-aged children onto cocaine-like stimulants or antidepressants for which the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has just ordered a "black box label" warning of the drugs' high risk of causing suicide among children and adolescents. Ms. Kelly Preston, who met with members of Congress in June last year to enlist support of the amendment, said, "Every mother has an inherent right to protect her child from harm. However, many mothers have been denied that right because psychiatrists have inundated unwitting teachers with the false opinion that educational and behavioral problems are symptoms of 'mental disorders' that require mind-altering drugs. This law gives hope for a new era in education, one where teachers are free to work with parents to find academic solutions instead of unworkable and harmful psychiatric treatments that benefit no one but the psychiatric industry."

Many groups supported the amendment, including the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the National Foundation of Women Legislators (NFWL), Parents for a Label and Drug Free Education, as well as numerous state and federal legislators.

Bruce Wiseman, the U.S. President of CCHR says, "Psychiatrists did not want to let go of their stronghold of American schools and launched massive counter efforts to kill this legislation. However, people are waking up to the fact that psychiatric 'mental disorders' have absolutely no scientific/medical validity and that psychiatrists falsely portray them as a disease or physical condition to convince teachers and parents that these are medical issues, which is a complete fraud. Psychiatric 'disorders' are simply checklists of the behaviors-symptoms presumed to be related-and voted by members of American Psychiatric Association to be included in their insurance billing bible, the Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. This has been used to justify the administration of dangerous drugs to more than 8 million children. Parents and teachers were never informed about documented side effects of many of these drugs, including suicide, violence, mania and psychosis."

CCHR says the next step in educational reform is to remove psychiatric and psychological testing and screening from schools which are the feeder lines to psychiatrists who have made turning schools into mental health clinics a business. Millions of students are now dependent upon psychiatric drugs or are taking them illegally. CCHR, joined by scores of parents and civil rights groups, say the New Freedom Commission on Mental Health's recommendations for mandatory mental health screening in school is a frightening representation of Aldous Huxley's Brave New World, in which Huxley describes a controlled "utopian" civilization achieved with the "technique of suggestion-through infant conditioning and, later, with the aid of drugs." While the "Prohibition on Mandatory Medication Amendment" will help prevent some of psychiatry's propensity to drug all normal childhood behavior, many charge that the spurious sounding "Freedom Commission on Mental Health" and its recommendations will open another door to dangerous conditioning leading to massive increases in psychotropic drugging of a new generation.

Dr. Julian Whitaker, director of California's Whitaker Wellness Center warns that the motive behind mandatory mental health screening of children is obvious: "That means drugging them!" For psychiatry, this means, "52 million potential customers." He offers this advice to parents: "First of all, refuse to sign those consent forms when they come home from your child's school-if they can't test them, they can't drug them."

CCHR will monitor the implementation of this law so that any parent who may still experience coercion to drug their child can contact CCHR to report this and for assistance.

Health-Care Firms on Lookout for Michael Moore
by Bruce Japsen

The latest buzz in the health-care industry has nothing to do with new drugs or medical treatments. It's all about moviemaker Michael Moore and where he's lurking these days.

Some of the nation's biggest drug manufacturers and health insurance plans confirm they have issued warnings to their sales representatives and other employees in recent weeks, telling them to be on the look out for the shaggy filmmaker in his trademark baseball cap. And, under no circumstances, are they to talk to Moore.

The industry's red alert was prompted by word that Moore plans to aim his camera lens at the health-care industry, much as he did with other targets, most recently President Bush in "Fahrenheit 9/11."

The $100 million box office documentary-style film presented Bush's war on terror as ill-advised and corrupt, angering the president's supporters while drawing cheers from Bush foes. The planned movie, tentatively titled "Sicko," is expected to focus on health-care industry business practices, specifically those of the managed-care and pharmaceutical industries, which have both been mentioned in Moore's recent speeches and interviews, his spokesman said.

Health-care companies are hardly enthused.
"What our society really needs is a serious debate about overall health care based on facts, not just another one-sided micro-mockumentary," said Court Rosen, spokesman with the drug industry's Washington lobby, Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America.

But Moore's people seemed amused by the industry's call to arms, saying health-care companies obviously have reason to be concerned if they feel the need to put their employees on guard. Moore representatives say there isn't even a timetable for production to begin, and financing has yet to be finalized. "Everything he does is well-documented, so I can understand why they would be so worried," said Moore spokesman Mark Benoit.

Industry observers don't think it will be difficult for Moore to find real-life examples, since the business practices of HMOs and certain other health plan business practices that encourage low-cost medical care have long been criticized as short-changing patients.

Practices targeted
Meanwhile, drug industry marketing practices have been a target of prosecutors and lawmakers who say they can lead to unnecessary prescriptions by doctors or to higher health-care costs.

The industry's gift-giving practices, intended to win physician loyalty to certain drugs, have been of particular concern in a climate of growing consumer outrage over drug costs, which have risen at an annual rate of 15 percent during each of the last four years, far exceeding inflation.

"We would welcome any public disclosure on the way this multibillion-dollar industry works," said Lynda DeLaforgue, co-director of consumer group Citizen Action Illinois. "They would certainly have reason to be concerned about any group looking into their business practices, looking into the amount of money that they use to influence the political and legislative process. These are obviously the typical things Mr. Moore delves into deeper."

If industry reports on Moore sightings are to be believed, the filmmaker himself is taking a page out of drugmakers' handbooks to do his movie by offering medical professionals payments for access to their offices.

Companies have warned their sales representatives to be on the lookout for camera phones and reports of Moore representatives offering $50,000 to doctors' offices to place hidden cameras or $5,000 to sales representatives willing to be filmed, according to a representative of one drugmaker, who asked not to be identified.

Moore's spokesman would not comment on any production activity or allegations of payments to drug company employees.

Miramax, which has been mentioned in published reports as financing and distributing Moore's film on the health-care industry, said a deal is in the works but it has "yet to be finalized," a Miramax spokesman said. Miramax would not comment on Moore's plans for the film, and Moore was unavailable for comment.

In the Chicago area, the Moore film has been a topic of discussion in the public relations and marketing departments at both Abbott Laboratories of North Chicago and TAP Pharmaceutical Products Inc. of Lake Forest.

"We have communicated a reminder of our media policy," said Abbott spokeswoman Laureen Cassidy.

"If Abbott representatives are directly approached by media, we have provided them with some helpful reminders for interacting with the media," she added. "This information is shared at routine training meetings held throughout the year. We also share this information when individuals are staffing an Abbott booth at medical meetings."

Education on ethics
Even before it was reported that Moore was thinking about a movie on the health-care industry, Abbott and TAP took exhaustive measures to educate their sales forces on ethical business practices.

In 2001, TAP--a joint venture of Abbott and Takeda Pharmaceutical Co. of Japan--pleaded guilty to a charge of conspiring with doctors in the mid-1990s to bill government insurers for free samples of the prostate cancer drug Lupron and paid an industry record $885 million to settle allegations of wrongdoing.

In July, 11 current and former TAP sales representatives not covered by the 2001 settlement were either acquitted or had charges against them dismissed. The trial in federal court in Boston involved charges of illegal marketing practices.

Neither TAP nor Abbott would comment on the Moore movie. They said they do not believe they are a focus of it.

A pharmaceutical professionals' web-site, Cafepharma, has been abuzz in recent weeks about Moore sightings and rumors the famed film producer is trying to recruit pharmaceutical sales representatives for his documentary. Health plans, too, say they are aware of the film but are not going to let it distract them from providing patient care for their subscribers.

"Michael Moore is a major Hollywood entertainer and while we have heard through the Hollywood press that he has signed a deal for his next movie, our industry is much more focused on the needs of the American people advancing a positive policy agenda in Washington and across the country to make high-quality health care affordable for millions of Americans," said Mohit Ghose, spokesman for America's Health Insurance Plans.

Update on NZ Natural Health
by David Sloan

Here is another brief update to let you know about the progress that has been made in the fight to keep NZ Natural Health products safe from the ravages of the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).

The Industry Meeting held in Auckland on November 15th went very well with approximately 110 people enthusiastically attending. There were very positive answers to the pre-presented questions from all of the opposition spokespeople but NOT from the Labour's Steve Chadwick. She made it clear that she liked the Government proposal and would not accept that it was the TGA in "Drag". According to her we were all mis-informed. It was interesting to note that Annette King and Susan Martindale's watchdog, Selwyn Kartene slipped into the meeting and kept an eye on proceedings from the back of the room.

It's curious that Chadwick and four other Labour members on the Health Select committee signed off on the unanimous initial report - which damned the proposal - and have since been made to do a 100% turn-around. The political pressure is enormous. The Labour members now claim that all the concerns from the Select Committee report would be 'fixed' under the implementing legislation. We however know that the Treaty, as signed, is incompatible with the Select Committee report and any attempt to address industry and consumer concerns will only be window dressing, and an attempt to fool New Zealanders into thinking that the Government has actually listened.

Many thanks to David Holden and his team - they did a great job organising the meeting and it was impressive to get representatives from all political parties to attend. The co-ordinated campaign (emails, postcards, etc) is clearly getting a lot of attention at Parliament and keeping this issue alive. One message the opposition MP's did convey strongly was to keep the emails and postcards coming. They are having an important effect. They are very enthusiastic about the public campaign in opposition to the government's proposal.

Contact Your MP, order postcards:

Important notice

For use as a counter display or to send out with postcards - includes an MP list.

Many thanks to everyone who has already sent emails and postcards to MP's. Although we remain confident, we cannot afford to rest on the success of recent events. Labour is waiting for the industry to get bored and let the issue fade into the background so they can try and pass the legislation needed. We can't let that happen so please pass the message on - get your friends and everyone on your email list to contact their MP's (by email and postcard) too. Awareness of this campaign is critical. Many are still unaware of the threat. You can help by forwarding this newsletter on to as many as you can.

Warning! In response to the emails & postcards they receive, Labour MP's are sending out a standard package of information trying to convince you that their proposal is a good idea. BUT DON'T BE FOOLED! Labour is desperate to get this proposal through and will say anything to succeed.

The Campaign continues…..
We take this opportunity to wish you, your family & associates a Happy New Year.

Kind Regards
Dave Sloan

Firm 'Knew of Prozac Side-Effects'
by John Crowley

The antidepressant drug Prozac may cause patients to become suicidal and violent, according to leaked medical documents.

Papers given to the British Medical Journal suggest that Eli Lilly, the manufacturer, had known about the potentially dangerous side-effects of Prozac since the 1980s.

The document emerged from a civil case brought against the company after a man taking Prozac killed eight people before killing himself in Kentucky in 1989.

Dr Richard Kapit, the FDA clinical reviewer who approved Prozac, told the BMJ that he was not shown the internal report.

"These data are very important," he said. "if this report was done by Lilly, or for Lilly, it was their responsibility to report it to us to publish it."

Eli Lilly said in response to the article, "Prozac is one of the most studied drugs in the history of medicine. The safety and efficacy of Prozac is well studied, well documented and well established."

Health is an Inalienable Human Right
Firm Protest in Bonn Against Codex Plans

On Sunday 31 October the Dr. Rath Health Foundation welcomed an international audience to the large auditorium of Bad Godesburg municipal hall in Bonn. "Stop Codex" was the urgent appeal, with the message: "We say 'No' to the unscrupulous plans of the Codex Alimentarius Commission to prohibit free access to natural remedies and information about them." Since Monday, 1st November the Commission has been meeting again in Bonn, under German patronage, to drive forward goals which wholly disregard human needs and rights.

Dr. Matthias Rath left no doubt about who is responsible for the Codex plans: none other than the pharmaceutical cartel, which for countless years has been promising health but spreading illness. The profits of the pharmaceutical investment industry depend on the continued survival and expansion of its markets in patented drugs, genetically modified foods and synthetic food additives - despite the fact that there is an alternative to ineffectual pharmaceutical medicine, embodied in scientifically based, effective natural remedies without side effects, such as Cellular Medicine.

The large audience attending the event at Bad Godesberg municipal hall clearly demonstrated that it was composed of people intent on taking responsibility themselves: responsibility for preventing the pharmaceutical cartel from continuing to turn the human body into a market place for its "business with disease".

Dr. Aleksandra Niedzwiecki, director of the Dr. Rath Research Institute in California, gave information about Cellular Medicine's latest, encouraging research results, highlighting the fact that the strength of this natural approach to medicine lies in its scientific foundation.

Dr. Wong Ang Peng from Malaysia gave a committed and passionate lecture on the successes he has been able to achieve with the help of Cellular Medicine in combating endemic diseases such as high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes and cancer.

Paul Taylor, as British expert on the "Codex Alimentarius", supported Dr. Rath's appeal to protest actively against the Codex plans. He encouraged the audience and people throughout the world to send e-mails and, in particular, letters and faxes to members of the German and European parliaments, and decisively reject plans to prohibit free access to natural remedies. "All of us must act. Just think about it: the life you save might be your own," said Taylor, giving the audience something to ponder.

Dr. Anthony Brink, solicitor and judge from South Africa, reported on his battle against the business based on AIDS. Expensive, ineffective anti-AIDS drugs are sold there - a medical catastrophe which harms whole generations of socially disadvantaged AIDS patients.

The programme of accompanying events in the municipal hall's foyer met with a very warm response. At the Dr. Rath Health Foundation stand, hundreds of signatures were collected against the Codex Alimentarius plans. Werner Pilniok spoke of the aims of his patient association, which include providing a communication forum for
patients harmed by pharmaceutical medicine.

On Monday 1 November a large crowd of people gathered at the Brotfabrik cultural centre in the Beuel district of Bonn, in order to join a protest march with Dr. Rath past the building in which the Codex Commission had on the same day begun its meeting to realise its unscrupulous aims. Banners showed their absolute determination to continue the protest against the plans, regulations and laws being driven forward to protect the global pharmaceutical market. "Stop Codex, free access to natural remedies," declared this group of critics battling for a healthy world. When the protesters reached their destination there were several addresses, in which Dr. Rath, Dr. Niedzwiecki and other committed doctors and members of the Dr. Rath Health Alliance gave their solid vote in favour of free access to vitamins and natural remedies. They appealed to Codex delegates not simply to implement the profit-orientated guidelines of the pharmaceutical cartel, but to listen to their own conscience. For health is an inalienable human right that no one has the right to curtail.

Dr. Rath Speech Codex 2004
Responsibility for Health, Peace and Social Justice

We meet here today to raise our voices against one of the greatest crimes in human history: the attempt to deny the right of free access to natural health, the right to health itself.

Global economic interests of a whole branch of industry, the pharmaceutical industry, aim to deprive us of this right. The commercial basis of this branch of industry is the perpetuation and spread of illnesses as a billion-dollar market for the sale of its investment commodities - thousands of pharmaceutical drugs - which are synthetic, patentable and associated with severe side effects.

Yet the unscrupulous Codex plans are not a sign of the pharmaceutical cartel's strength. They are a direct reaction to a breathtaking breakthrough in vitamin research and Cellular Medicine, which lays the foundation for the eradication of today's endemic diseases.

Never before in human history has a single medical breakthrough been able to eradicate so many endemic diseases at one time, and save so many human lives, as the discovery of the importance of vitamins, minerals and other vital factors of cell metabolism in preventing cellular deficiencies and illnesses.

Never before in human history has a single medical breakthrough been able to help reduce the major causes of death, both in industrialised countries and also developing companies, to a fraction of their current level. In industrialised countries, heart attack, stroke, high blood pressure, cardiac insufficiency, cancer, osteoporosis and other endemic diseases are being successfully combated; in developing countries this extends to the consequences of malnutrition and susceptibility to tuberculosis, Aids and other infectious diseases.

Never before in human history has the goal of attaining a world without disease been as close as it is today. The most important obstruction on the path to this goal is the opposition of the pharmaceutical industry - a branch of industry based on the perpetuation of endemic diseases.

Never before in human history has an industry risked the health and lives of millions of people for as long and as systematically as the pharmaceutical industry, with the aim of making billion-dollar profits from the continued suffering and misery of millions of patients.

Never before in human history has there been a more comprehensively fraudulent business than the "pharmaceutical business with disease". The pharmaceutical cartel promises to deliver the commodity "health", cashes in to the tune of billions and just delivers more and more illness. As compelling proof of this global deception, one can cite the fact that not a single endemic disease has been eradicated over decades. On the contrary, the billion-dollar costs of perpetuating these illnesses are ruining private and public budgets worldwide.

The pharmaceutical cartel's Codex plans are, more than ever before in human history, an unscrupulous attempt to sustain a multi-billion, global system of fraud and deception by misusing governments and national and international parliaments to pass protection and muzzling laws, and to prevent affordable health care based on natural, non-patentable remedies.

Never before in human history has a greater responsibility fallen on a generation's shoulders than on ours here and today. Either we will now succeed in liberating humanity from the scourge of the "business with disease", or this unscrupulous branch of industry will continue to enslave humanity for generations to come.

We have come here today to show our strength and our resolve: no one has the right to prevent our free access to natural remedies. No one has the right to endanger our health intentionally by withholding vital information. Health is a human right for us and for people the world over!

From tomorrow, representatives of the pharmaceutical cartel's global operations and its political henchmen will meet here in Bonn behind closed doors, under the patronage of the German federal government. The aim of this meeting is, once again, to try to enforce a global prohibition on effective natural remedies which are free of side effects.

This first worldwide protection law of the globalisation era aims to defend a whole branch of industry from collapse. For it has long been clear that vitamin therapies and other non-patentable natural remedies have become effective and economical alternatives to pharmaceutical medicine.

In order to implement these pharmaceutical cartel protection laws, the cartel and its political henchmen are spreading the myth of the supposed side effects of vitamins and other natural remedies, deceiving citizens into believing that the Codex Alimentarius is a kind of "consumer protection regulation".

This threadbare claim is the reverse of the truth. No one has yet died from the non-existent side effects of vitamins and other natural remedies. But by contrast over a million people die each year from the known fatal side effects of prescribable pharmaceutical drugs. The pharmaceutical drug VIOXX, which has now been withdrawn, was taken by over 80 million people throughout the world. Even after withdrawal of this drug, the time bomb of long-term side effects is ticking on in these people. According to the US drug registration authority, umpteen thousand patients will die of VIOXX-induced heart attacks in the next few years, although they have long since stopped taking it.

In view of the Lipobay and Vioxx scandals, it is incomprehensible that the governments of the world do not step up the search for natural alternatives, but continue to back the fraudulent pharmaceutical business with disease.
We say: we need consumer protection against the side effects of pharmaceutical pills, and not against the supposed side effects of vitamins!

Participants at the Codex Alimentarius conference here in Bonn next week bear responsibility for the continued deaths of millions of people from diseases which should long ago have been relegated to the past.

We reject any democratic legitimacy which the Codex Alimentarius may claim to have. With the exception of a few independent participants - some of whom are here amongst us today - most members of this so-called commission of experts are arbitrarily appointed representatives who promote the interests of the global pharmaceutical cartel.

We reject the right of Gerhard Schröder, as patron of this unscrupulous event, to ignore the health and vital interests of 80 million people in Germany, and to misuse millions of euros from German taxpayers to fund an event organised by the global pharmaceutical lobby. We condemn him for helping to implement the pharmaceutical cartel's Codex plans to keep people throughout the world in submission to its yoke.

We also reject any legitimacy the UN may claim to have to implement such unscrupulous plans, supposedly on behalf of the world's citizens, which will lead to the predictable death of hundreds of millions of people. With its decision in June of this year to retrospectively legitimise the invasion of Iraq, a war declared to be an infringement of international law has been justified after the event. With this fatal decision the 16 members of the World Security Council - including Joschka Fischer - have knowingly destroyed the UN charter and the international legal system based on it. From now on any country is fair game for global commercial and military interests, and the UN charter, the sole protection for 150 small countries, has been irredeemably destroyed.

In view of these sobering facts, we have to ask: What legitimacy can we still accord to UN organisations - WHA and FAO - in whose name the unscrupulous Codex plans are to be implemented? The plain answer is that the destruction of the UN charter in June of this year has also destroyed the legitimacy of UN organisations, which are all based on this charter.

And that is why all decisions which the Codex Alimentarius Commission takes next week will have no international legality, and why no country in the world will be obliged to adhere to them.

In contrast to the undemocratic Codex event, we represent the interests of millions of people in Germany, Europe and the whole world. We are not here today for ourselves alone, but in order to represent the health and vital interests of 6 billion people, who are directly threatened by the Codex Alimentarius plans. The fact that the great majority of these people have not yet heard of the Codex Alimentarius is further evidence of the fact that the pharmaceutical cartel and its henchmen can only operate in the shadows and behind closed doors, and - like vampires - avoid daylight.

On behalf of the world's people we now urge the members of the Codex Alimentarius Commission to relinquish the pharmaceutical cartel's unscrupulous Codex plans immediately.

Free access to natural remedies must not be restricted, but instead promoted.
Natural health is a human right and must be anchored in law in all countries of the world.

We have been accused of labouring under a mistaken conspiracy theory in our battle against the Codex Alimentarius. This argument is easy to refute: one only has to take a clear look at the tendencies at work in the pharmaceutical business with disease, and be familiar with the history of this branch of industry's systematic development through the course of the 20th century.

Let us look firstly at the tendencies underlying the pharmaceutical investment industry. These can be summarised in a few points:

1. The pharmaceutical industry is an investment industry which does not profit from promoting the health of human beings but from the perpetuation and spread of diseases.

2. The speculative commodities of this branch of industry are synthetic molecules which are patentable. It is these patent fees which determine "return on investment", i.e. the profit margin.

3. The prevention and the eradication of diseases destroy multi-billion sales markets for the pharmaceutical industry and are thus combated by the latter. That is why over 80 percent of the pharmaceutical drugs marketed today are not proven to cure, but just repress symptoms.

4. In order to conceal and perpetuate this multi-billion fraudulent business, the pharmaceutical industry primarily invests its profits in making whole social domains such as medicine, the media and politics dependent upon it. The biggest fraudulent business in human history functions in an astonishingly simple way: millions of people are promised the commodity "health", but what is delivered is in fact just more and more illness - thus creating ever new sales markets.

5. Vitamins and other scientifically based natural remedies threaten the survival of the multi-billion pharmaceutical investment industry for two reasons: firstly they are not patentable and are thus unsuited as an investment industry's speculative commodities. Secondly, and still more importantly, they eradicate the cellular causes of endemic diseases and thus prevent the perpetuation of these endemic diseases as multi-billion sales markets for pharmaceutical drugs.

6. The pharmaceutical investment business with disease and the worldwide use of vitamin therapies to eradicate illnesses are mutually incompatible. It will be either the financial interests of a handful of pharmaceutical shareholders that win the day - or the health interests of six billion people. Both together will not work.

7. Illnesses will continue to exist for as long as there is a branch of industry which earns multi-billion profits from the continued existence of these illnesses. Only by getting rid of the pharmaceutical business with disease will humanity succeed in freeing itself from today's endemic diseases.

Now let us turn briefly to a short survey of the history of the pharmaceutical industry:
At the end of the 19th century, the patentability of synthetic molecules was developed as the foundation of the pharmaceutical investment industry. Aspirin and other chemical substances were the first medicines representative of this new investment business with disease.

In 1915 the oil billionaire Rockefeller established the Rockefeller Foundation, using its charitable status as a cover for targeted investment in the development of a new multi-billion industry, the pharmaceutical industry.

The global greed of the US Rockefeller cartel and the German IG Farben cartel - the latter consisting of Bayer, BASF and Höchst - increasingly collided. On 9 November 1929 an historic agreement was signed: the two cartels divided the world between them. The Rockefeller Group was promised the global oil industry, while IG Farben took the global chemical industry for itself.

But IG Farben did not keep this agreement, for it still had an ace up its sleeve. Bayer, BASF and Hoechst became the biggest election donors for Hitler's rise to power. IG Farben's investments in these politicians initially seemed to have paid off. Whenever the Wehrmacht invaded a European country, IG Farben was already in the passenger seat and seized the chemical industries and oil fields of Europe free of charge.

Isn't it astonishing? Today's rulers want to convince us, the people of Germany and the world, that the Second World War was a kind of accident of history, triggered by a psychopath named Hitler. The fact is, however, that wars, both now and in the past, have always had primarily economic motives. The Second World War was no exception.

At the Nuremberg war crimes trial against 24 IG Farben bosses, the chief US prosecutor Tellford Taylor said that without the financial interests of IG Farben, Hitler's rise to power and the Second World War would not have been possible. Fritz Ter Meer and other IG Farben executive board members were sentenced to imprisonment for many years.

But instead of a wholesale break-up of the IG Farben cartel, the Rockefeller Group's influence amongst the victorious powers succeeded in papering over the cracks. The Rockefeller Group - in other words, its former competitor - took over the share package of IG Farben. Former war criminals such as Ter Meer took on directorship of the resurrected pharmaceutical and chemical Groups Bayer, BASF and Hoechst.

A certain Ludwig Erhard played a leading role in these brazen staff appointments. He publicly declared that the choice of post-war directors was made on the basis of the specialist knowledge and experience of the IG Farben managers in the "commercial and chemical-technical field". And since back-scratching is mutual, the former IG Farben man Ludwig Erhard was soon appointed finance minister in post-war Germany, and even German Chancellor in 1963.

As well as being the year when Ludwig Erhard became Chancellor and Fritz Ter Meer resumed chairmanship of the Bayer Group's board of directors, 1963 was also when the German government took over chairmanship of the UN's so-called "experts' commission" to protect worldwide pharmaceutical interests. This was given the as yet unknown name of "Codex Alimentarius".

The Codex Alimentarius meeting in Bonn next week is thus embedded in a long historical tradition of forces which have never shown any concern for the interests of human beings, but have always only been serviceable political puppets of their cartel masters.

In 1982, a former pharmaceutical spokesman of BASF seized the top job in the German federal government through a so-called constructive vote of no confidence. His name was Helmut Kohl. The pharmaceutical cartel had given Kohl a leg-up from being an ordinary BASF member of staff to someone who occupied the central corridors of power. For 16 years Helmut Kohl promoted the pharmaceutical cartel's global political interests from the Chancellor's office of the Federal Republic of Germany.

On 21 June 1997, all these links and the role of Kohl - who was still Chancellor - as the puppet of the pharmaceutical cartel, were revealed for the first time. In my talk at Chemnitz municipal hall, I also pointed out that the pharmaceutical cartel is itself the biggest obstacle to humanity's self-emancipation from endemic diseases. This talk and its circulation in the context of the incipient Health Alliance, was the start of a process of awakening in Germany, which culminated initially in the impressive election defeat of Chancellor Kohl one year later, in September 1998.

With the election defeat of its political henchman Helmut Kohl, pharmaceutical investment circles, mainly coordinated through Deutsche Bank, sought a new home. Their choice fell on the USA, where a certain George Walker Bush was starting to coordinate the global interests of the Rockefeller Group via the White House and the Pentagon.

In order to facilitate this enormous transfer of the pharmaceutical investment industry from its former stronghold in Germany to its new stronghold in the USA, it was decided that Deutsche Bank would merge with the Bankers Trust of America, one of the biggest US investment banks. Everything had been perfectly prepared, but then it happened: US government official Alan Hevisi, who was responsible for financial mergers in New York, threatened to blast the multi-billion merger sky-high by arguing that Deutsche bank had not yet paid compensation for its past transgressions in financing the Nazi rise to power, the Second World War and construction of Auschwitz concentration camp.

To enable the pharmaceutical investment industry to move to the USA nevertheless, a diversionary manoeuvre had to be instigated which would distract the attention of the media and the international public until the investment bank merger had been signed and sealed.

This was the beginning of the Kosovo war. Schröder and Fischer became the engines driving this war forwards. When Oskar Lafontaine - then the third most powerful man in German political corridors - refused to countenance the war, he had to go. On 24 March 1999 the first bombs fell on Kosovo.

Three months and more than 10,000 dead later, on 4 June 1999, the Kosovo conflict was declared over in a triumphant statement by Federal Chancellor Schröder in Cologne. On the same day, 4 June 1999, Deutsche Bank announced that its deal with Bankers Trust of America had been signed and sealed. Gerhard Schroeder allowed his name to be celebrated: the Kosovo peace declaration was given the name "Pax Schroeder".

Under cover of the Kosovo war, the whole pharmaceutical investment industry had transferred from the home of the defeated pharmaceutical puppet Kohl to that of the new pharmaceutical puppet George W. Bush. It was not only the pharmaceutical investment industry which moved with Deutsche Bank, but also the whole know-how for bringing governments to power against the will of the people, and stage managing wars and crises in order to pass emergency legislation which then open the doors wide for cartel interests. The parallels between the Reichstag fire in Berlin in 1933 and 11 September in New York are not a matter of coincidence.

The day after tomorrow, on 2 November 2004, the new political puppet of the pharmaceutical cartel will stand for re-election. If he is elected, emergency legislation to shore up the global power of the pharmaceutical cartel will be implemented, if need be with military force.

Humanity is currently undergoing one of the most critical phases in its history. Only those who see what is happening, who are willing to learn more, will be able to stand up to these powers.

The Dr. Rath Health Foundation and the members of our Health Alliance have seen that these are the same interests which, on a global scale, are responsible for illness and war. We are working to promote a healthy, peaceful and just world. If you believe that you too must do something, talk to us and commit yourself.

We appeal to the world's people to join us with the aim of liberating the earth from today's endemic diseases. Help us to make health an inalienable human right. No one has the right to withhold vital health information from us.

We urge the world's politicians to combat the pharmaceutical industry's plans to pass laws which prohibit dissemination of vital health information on vitamin therapies and natural remedies. We say "No" to the pharmaceutical cartel's Codex plans!

Together let us use the breakthrough in natural medicine research and Cellular Medicine to eradicate endemic diseases for this and all future generations. Let us work together for a healthy, peaceful and just world!

Many thanks.

Federally "Indict" Merck Executives...

Opinion by Consumer Advocate Tim Bolen

We need a healthcare "Nuremberg..."

Shortly after South Carolina MD Jim Shortt was falsely accused of killing a female Multiple Sclerosis (MS) patient this year, supposedly by applying a Hydrogen Peroxide IV to get rid of viruses and bacteria, armed Federal, State, and local law enforcement agents, in almost a "Waco style" assault team, donned their body armor, their mirrored sunglasses, activated their Public Relations teams, and screamed and battered their way into Shortt's West Columbia, South Carolina clinic. With guns and warrant on hand, they seized everything in sight.

Although medical literature clearly shows that Hydrogen Peroxide IV, to get rid of viruses and bacteria, has been around for over ninety (90) years, and records show that over a million treatments have been made, with NO DEATHS ever recorded, the mere "allegation" of death, false that it was, and made by an elected official with no medical training, caused a massive assault by US law enforcement.

Now let's get real here. It looks to me that US law enforcement has a "policy" here of "zero tolerance" for death by a faulty health treatment. If that's the case, than I think we should be soon watching a humungous raid of Big Pharma giant Merck. For Merck, by US FDA investigation has killed over 55,000 people with its Vioxx drug alone….

We learned from the US "Enron scandal," that we must hold industry leaders personally responsible for their actions - and that criminal indictments are an absolute necessity.

Columnist Arriana Huffington wrote an excellent article published in the New York Times November 24th, 2004 called You Want A Moral Issue? How About Drugs That Don't Kill?

She was talking about Big Pharma giant Merck's killing of 55,000 people with their deadly drug Vioxx. About that she said, "There ought to be a special place in hell for corporations that show such a wanton disregard for human life."

55,000 people died, and I haven't heard a word from Attorney General John Ashcroft's office about raids on Merck's offices, pending arrests, property seizures, warrants, injunctions, seizures of products, bans on products sold in this country, etc.

Why not?

We lost 3,000 people in the attack on the World Trade Center towers in New York City September 11, 2001. We've lost another three thousand in the counter-attack on terrorism, including the massive assault in Iraq. That's about 6,000 deaths total. Merck knowingly killed 55,000 people with Vioxx alone - and we haven't even looked at what else these drug lords peddle - our FDA is so owned, and disabled, by Big Pharma, that investigations ARE NOT LIKELY.

Yet...

Using US law enforcement's "guidelines" for "zero tolerance," I fully expect, and DEMAND an immediate raid, guns drawn, body armor in place, mirrored sunglasses nosed, with full media alert, of EVERY Merck office worldwide.

We need immediate seizure of every Merck document ever initiated. We need an immediate seizure of every Merck product offered in the United States. Every Merck executive's home needs a raid. We need to immediately ban every Merck product sold in the United States, pending investigation, and alert the medical profession.

You think I'm jesting? I'm not. Merck knows "the worst" is coming. One of my sources tells me that Merck, a few weeks ago, awarded its top 250 executives "golden parachute" retirement packages that would supersede the financial collapse of Merck.

And, it was those executives who were ultimately responsible for all those deaths. We can't let them head for Argentina with submarines full of art and gold...

We need a health care "Nuremberg..."

Stay tuned...

Vitamin A Produces Astonishing Leukemia Cure Rate, Even Without Chemotherapy

New research conducted at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center shows that vitamin A cures as many as 33% of patients with a rare form of leukemia -- without using chemotherapy. In the study, the vitamin A was being delivered inside "bubbles of fat" to enhance bioavailability. Out of 34 patients participating in the trial, an astonishing 10 remained cancer-free after five years, despite receiving no chemotherapy.

So what's the real story here? Researchers are calling this form of vitamin A a "drug," which seems odd, since it's just vitamin A. Perhaps they don't want to admit that a vitamin is better than chemotherapy for curing cancer. And this is definitely a cure -- that term is even being used by the researchers here. To take a group of cancer patients and watch them remain cancer-free for five years is nothing short of astonishing, especially since they were only taking one vitamin. Imagine how well they'd do if they also consumed chlorella (a strong anti-cancer superfood), spirulina (another superfood containing phytochemicals known to destroy breast cancer tumors), graviola (an Amazonian herb known for its powerful ability to destroy cancer cells), licorice root (a more popular anti-cancer herb) and other health-promoting foods and supplements. With the help of this collection of health-promoting substances, the cure rate could have easily risen to 75% or more.

Still, that's just a guess. Organized medicine isn't really interested in studying things that don't generate profits, and herbs and superfoods certainly fall into that category. But it is exciting to see vitamin A having such a dramatic, positive impact on patients with leukemia who might otherwise be subjected to chemotherapy. And perhaps someday these researchers will have the courage to admit that it's a vitamin, not a drug, that's working the healing magic here.

Overview:
A biological agent --- a drug that wraps vitamin A inside bubbles of fat --- used without chemotherapy appears to offer as many as one-third of patients with a rare form of leukemia an opportunity for a long-term, disease-free future, say researchers at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.

Researchers say the findings, presented at the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, provide the proof that biologic drugs can work in patients with acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), and opens the door to development of such agents for more common forms of leukemia.
"This is the first time we have seen patients with an acute leukemia potentially cured without use of chemotherapy," says the study principal investigator, Elihu Estey, MD, a professor in the Department of Leukemia.
