• THE DANGERS OF BEING A FOOD COLONY: Journalist Yoichiro Aonuma warns that Japan is facing food safety problems because it is a 'food colony' of the United States. Japan's food self-sufficiency ratio stands at less than 40% in calorie terms, and the country relies heavily on U.S. imports to make up the difference.
• IT'S THE REAL (TOXIC) THING: The Indian government has ordered an investigation into why an analysis of 12 brands of cold drinks owned and marketed by Coca-Cola and Pepsi allegedly found that they contained on average more than 30 times the EU legal limit for pesticides.
• OBESE TODDLERS: More than 60 percent of Americans are overweight or obese. Many U.S. toddlers are also obese and are even showing signs of diabetes and other diseases associated with obesity, according to researchers.
